Some of my earliest memories involving books are about Topsy & Tim. I loved these little books. They were the first books I had come across that showed children in real-life situations - no gymkhanas or boarding school midnight feasts for Topsy & Tim, the twins were to be found at the police station, helping the dustmen, getting their eyes tested or rummaging at a jumble sale. And the illustrations of Topsy & Tim are truly unique.
It's a shame that the books are not widely known outside the UK, but I guess the themes and scenarios of the early editions are distinctively British. I have a large collection of the original books now, and was pleased to recently add this cute jigsaw.
