A couple of weeks ago I told you that I had a little surprise for you that I found in Clunes. Remember this lovely vintage tea towel and blanket?
Well, voila, they are now... my new laptop cover!
On our last trip to Clunes, Steph and I had spotted a shop with a sewing machine and iron inside it, and stacked high were piles of gorgeous vintage tea towels and blankets. The shop was closed, but when I went back to Clunes for the book festival I made a beeline for it, and found inside The Clunes Strangler, aka Darren.
Darren has set up shop making lovely things from repurposed op shop finds - sheets, tea towels and blankets. As well as the laptop covers, he makes gorgeous camera bags and scarves - here are some more pics I took in his shop (apologies for the quality of these)...
Darren is passionate about the materials he works with, and his work is of the highest quality I have seen in ages. The laptop covers have lots of fine details and are well thought-out - mine has the original edge of the blanket showing, and is beautifully quilted.
Best of all, it is totally reversible!!
AND, if you like, you can choose your materials from Darren's stash and have your item made especially for you and mailed to your home. That's what I did - I picked out an Australiana tea towel from 1975 and Darren helped me choose a lovely charcoal blanket that suited it perfectly.
Darren is getting a website together, but for the moment you have to visit Clunes to find him (or Portal 108 in Hepburn, where his work is stocked). I'm hoping that Darren will be taking a stall at the Daylesford Maker's Market next month - watch this space!
