Paper straws are back!

We have just received a new batch of the lovely paper straws at Lark. And the great news is that they now come in a much bigger box of 144 straws! Yay! The straws have a wonderful, nostalgic feel and are perfect for weddings and children's parties or lots of cute projects - for inspiration have a look at this post and this post, both from lovely Australian blogger Steph Bond - and check out this Flickr group.

The straws are in the WHAT'S NEW section of our shop, along with some other lovely things that just came in this week.

Ace gifts

A job like mine is never going to make anyone a fortune, but it has other rewards - like being surrounded by great design, gorgeous things and lovely, talented people. I received so many ace pressies from suppliers, customers and blog friends this year, I feel truly blessed. Here are just a few - as you can see, most people seem to know exactly what I love!

Last day of our sale = new things added!

Lots of new things have been added to the Lark sale, for those of you who are just getting back to normal after all the Christmas chaos! You'll find Genki tees, Cuckoo Nest, Daisy Lane lettersets, more Cath Kidston...

And don't miss out! Our sale closes at midnight tonight. Just like Cinderella, at the stroke of midnight all of the prices will go back to normal.

We have a winner!

Tara Stewart of Melbourne is the winner of our 'Win Your Lark Christmas Wish List' contest! Lucky Tara was chosen at random from all of the entries to win a $500 voucher to spend in our store. Thanks so much to everyone who entered - we'll be running another competition soon.

New things added to the Lark sale today!

Lots of things sold in our 3-day sale yesterday so I've added a huge bunch of new stuff for anyone who couldn't get online yesterday to check out the sale. This includes many more Belle & Boo prints, paper boats, tins of joy, paper chains, Naomi Murrell prints and more Cath Kidston things too.

The sale closes tomorrow night so hop on quickly before the prices go back to normal!

Don't miss the Lark 3 day Christmas sale!

Our big sale starts on boxing day - it's usually rather popular and it lasts for only 3 days so don't miss out! We've added lots of your favourite things from designers including Cath Kidston, Rice, Beci Orpin, Belle & Boo, and as usual the discounts are VERY generous! Because we love our customers and the support you give us throughout the year.

The sale is online only (not in the Daylesford store) and we ship worldwide. Please note that sale orders will not be shipped until our warehouse re-opens in mid-January.

The best week!

I am loving this week. Other than being bunged up with an ongoing cold I have had the best time in ages. Amongst other things I have...

Visited two tiny brand new babies
Helped out at the Twilight Makers Market
Made gingerbread houses
Been to a party in a 'chocolatorium'
Had a house full of small children
Walked around Lake Daylesford
Wrapped up all my Christmas gifts (yay!)

I also squeezed in some shopping at the Daylesford Bazaar, where Doug found these vintage matchboxes for me. They have just received a whole huge tub of matchboxes, I love them.

I'm finishing work this morning, we are all off for our annual Lark Christmas lunch, then home to prepare for Christmas eve and various gatherings.

I hope you are having a lovely week! x

Meet Superbud

I love how kids can get creative with everyday things - this is 'Superbud', made from a piece of my kids' current favourite breakfast cereal. He has a little house with a bed and food, an umbrella (cocktail umbrella!), and keeps popping up all over the house. I have had to save him from being eaten by the dog a few times.

Left it a little late?

I have noticed a bit of a rush in our web shop on gift certificates today (mostly ordered by men, dare I say...).

If you're in a panic about someone you haven't yet bought a gift for, there's still time to buy them a Lark Christmas gift voucher. You'll receive a voucher code that you can print out or email to your loved one, and in return you will get lots of brownie points, trust me! Find our gift vouchers here.

Girls and boys

We're looking after two little girls overnight for our best friends, whose baby is coming early. I have looked after them before for short periods but this time we are doing the full works - nappies, milk, sleeps etc. They are so cool to have around, lots of fun but it is pretty exhausting being with little kids, I'd kind of forgotten what pre-schoolers are like. I haven't been able to leave the room to go to the loo even! And girls are a whole different thing to me, I am used to boys. My son is a big help though, he is 9 and he really loves little kids. The smallest girl, who is 2, adores him and he has been carrying her around, playing with her, making things with her, and now she has gone off for a snooze in his bed (phew!). I can tell he finds it all very rewarding. He'll make a brilliant father one day - just like his own dad, who is an amazing role model, and both his grandads.

Stop press - the new baby has arrived safely, a third girl, hurrah!

Ssh... the sale is on its way!

A little birdie told me that the very popular Lark online sale will be starting soon. It's pretty huge and quite amazing, and it only lasts for 3 days. To be the first to hear about it, sign up to our newsletter! (you can sign up right here on the sidebar).

Haighs. Chocolate. Freckles. Need I say more?

In the press

The last issue of Peppermint magazine had a whole feature on their favourite places to visit in Daylesford - shops, farm gates, spas, markets, caf├ęs. Thanks for the lovely mention of Lark, girls!

Our shop also scored a great write-up in red magazine - I love the photos they took, the photographer was ace and by complete chance we worked out that we used to work in the same building in Cambridge years ago!

Free Lark Goody Bags in store!

There's still time to visit our Daylesford store before Christmas - see the sidebar for our open days. We have so many gorgeous things in the store, including new ranges that wont be in our website until January - sssh!

As a Christmas treat, any blog readers out there who come to the store between now and Christmas, spend $20 and mention this offer, you'll get a Lark Christmas Goody bag - it's a cute lil' candy stripe bag full of Christmassy goodness. We've been filling them today with knitted decorations, Christmas pocket mirrors and badges.

Hope to see you down this way before Christmas - don't forget tomorrow is the Twilight Daylesford Makers Market from 4pm til late, with Santa, live music, food stalls and of course the best in handmade from our lovely stallholders. Lark wont have a stall (the shop will open until 5), but yours truly will be at the Market from 4pm helping Santa and gift-wrapping your purchases for free.

Last mailing day today!

Please don't forget that today is your last chance to order from the Lark web shop before we close the warehouse for a much-needed stocktake and an even-more-needed Christmas break. Last orders by 1pm please! x

Christmas houses all lit up

We were out until dusk at a Christmas party at a friend's place tonight, so it was a great opportunity to drive around Daylesford and Hepburn on the way home, marvelling at how many Christmassy decorated houses there are this year - these are just two or three that we especially liked. We are SO decorating our house for Christmas next year - our new place is perfect for it, with a big corner garden, can't wait!!

Christmas preparations

Well it has been a busy week preparing for Christmas. We have been to no less than five local Christmassy get-togethers this week, phew, I am quite worn out and longing to put my feet up for an evening and catch up on the telly.

It's also been the week for sorting out the Christmas decorations for Paul and the boys to decorate the tree, as they do together every year...

And taking my little boy on a train trip to Melbourne to see the very spectacular Myer Christmas windows. We were both captivated by the Nutcracker story - the toffee palace, meringue towers, sugar plum fairies and candy palace...

I hope your Christmas preparations are coming along nicely! x

Lovely Lamps

Just letting you know that we have a received a small batch of the Rabbit and Scotty Dog lamps. They were featured in the Age a couple of weeks ago and we sold out, but we now have just a few more, if you are one of those people who were hoping to buy one for Christmas. My friend has bought the Rabbit lamp for her soon-to-be new baby's room!

Vintage sewing patterns

I forgot to tell you, last week I added lots of vintage sewing pattern book packs to my online yard sale. I love the illustrations from old sewing patterns. These illustrations are from the pages of the big pattern books you find in haberdashery stores. I have packs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and there are 100 pages in each pack. They are great to use for collages, gift wrapping or just for fashion design inspiration!

Thanks to Pilgrim for organising the Yard Sales!

Can't wait for this movie...

But there is still no official release date! Do you like the Moomins?

Just like Christmas!

When we visited the UK in September I did a little bit of shopping for clothes and fabric (ok well, quite a lot, but I was just trying to help boost their economy, honest!). The big box of goodies we shipped back by sea recently arrived and we had a lot of fun opening it and remembering what we had bought. Here are a few of my purchases - as you can see I have a bit of a floral and check thingy going on at the moment! Now I just need some sunshine (and maybe to lose a few of the kilos I gained after the holiday) to enjoy my purchases fully! x
