Summer Lovin'

Well, the kids are back at school now, after the long summer holidays. I really feel sad when they go back to school after summer. There are several reasons for this:

1. I miss having them around. When they are around at home it reminds me of when they were little, before all our lives were constricted by timetables and rules. It also forces me to work less, and it brings us closer together.

2. I hate school. Always have, always will. As a child I disliked the enforced socialising with other kids, the compulsory sports, the sheer boringness of the day-in day-out routine. My kids don't seem to mind it (yet), but I do. Thank goodness that Paul is happy to be the one who drops off the kids at school, who does most of the polite chit-chat and gets involved in school activities, as it would do my head in. I am lucky.

3. It's hard to get up in the mornings. Apart from our youngest son, who is an earlybird, we would happily get up around 9, so the shock of suddenly being back to 7.30am starts is horrible.

Still, we've had a great summer break. Unlike last year we weren't all ill for days on end, the weather has been beautifully mild and we've had the chance to get out and see friends a lot. I feel refreshed and ready for a new year. Do you? These are some of my favourite photos from our summer.

For some strange reason, the second last photo is my favourite.

This routine thing is not fun. I woke up this morning and felt sure it must have been the weekend.

To realise it was only Tuesday was not nice.

Lovely photo's (all of them), and I can't agree with you more about school - a lot of it is just un-necessary evil! Nic xx

It's so much fun to see pictures of summer right now. We had freezing drizzle today. Ugh!

I'm not crazy about all that polite chit-chat, school activity stuff either. Summers are the best.

Hope the kids have a great year!

Looks like you've had a great summer :)

Sorry its coming to an end for you but it gives us freezing brits hope that we'll get warmer weather soon. We're tired of our sweaters & woolies and long for flipflops & shorts ;)

we were having this same discussion the other day with my partner, about the kinder & the working bees & parent things you have to do & pretend to like. unfortunately the parents are treated as kids aswell.
goodluck with it all.

have a good market on Saturday, we'll be at Northside Makers.

I share your thoughts about school. I used to hate the way the schools took over home life as well, organising our evenings and weekends for us with too much homework. It's nice to hear others say they miss their children when they go to school. I have only ever experienced being in the minority with these thoughts so it's nice not to be the odd one out for a change.
