Lucky Day

It's been a good day for thrift. Tess found two awesome side tables outside the op shop near our building for $10 each (yay!) that she is going to repaint, then on my way home I spotted this cool stand outside the Bazaar. It was originally meant for a birdcage but I am going to repaint it and use it to hold a Lark sign at markets.

Gasp - be still my heart! Inside the Bazaar, Doug showed me this stash of 1970s greeting cards that just came in today. How could I go past them? Simple answer - I couldn't! You may recognise some of these designs, they are by an Australian illustrator who also did some swap cards in the 1970s. Aren't they just heart-warmingly gorgeous? They all have little messages inside like 'I Miss You' and 'Sorry I'm late". My lucky day, I think!

It's hard to choose, but this one below is probably my favourite. Happy op shopping! xx

Hi! I can't believe it - we have been looking for one of those stands to use for Pete's salon sign for outside our house!! None listed on ebay so if you ever see another please let us know! Hey I love the swap cards - esp the girl with the mini dress and green tights. Too cute..

Oh lucky you! What great finds. The stand that you plan to use for markets is perfect. And those cards? I definitely had some of them as swap cards... must see if I can find them.

OMG!!! Those cards SO remind me of my childhood! I remember drawing the B shaped face with those eyelashes endlessly :)

I just had a question Allison..u do up a lot of furniture..I like to do that too but I have a lot of metal things...some chairs, plant stands etc that really would look good repainted. One chair I just painted over without rustproofing etc just rusted again with in weeks.Do have a recipe/order for metal furniture? Just wondering.
Cheers
Vanessa
ps I still have photos of our Daylesford trip I have been meaning to send you..just not sure how :)

oh my those cards are so special. When I was little I used to draw girls with side profile faces like these illustrations. I called them my B girls, cause the shape was like a B. I dream of scores like yours!

Hi Vanessa, you can buy a rust solution from the hardware store. You need to get rid of the old loose paint, apply the solution and then you can paint over the top with enamel or spray paint. It doesn't always work perfectly, if the furniture is outside you might need to repaint it from time to time. x
